Welcome to Queenstown Bridge Club. We are one of the largest bridge clubs in Otago/Southland and we love new members.
Only six weeks until we host the Queenstown Open 8B Tournament @ The Events Centre! Have you registered?? This is OUR BIG DAY and we host better than any club around (great views, great food, great company and great bridge!) Be there or be square....
Our Friday bridge game continues to swell with six tables last week. Special welcome to visitors Liz and David from Australia, and Karen and Chris who are currently taking lessons from Betty and practising in the relaxed, supportive atmosphere that makes Friday bridge so popular! You are going to be fabulous club members Karen and Chris. Betty would be proud of how quickly you are grasping the game!!
Maree started playing bridge after breaking her leg skiing in 2003. She enjoyed the game so much she continued after her leg healed. Maree works full time as Group Manager H.R for Skyline, volunteers at Victim Support, sits on the S.I.T (Southern Institute of Technology) Advisory Board, cycles, skis, and walks with friends every morning with her dog Dawdle in tow.
Thanks to our President Hamish last night for cautioning us all about a wee practice that may be creeping into the club - psych bidding! What is it for those who missed it?
Karen grew up in a bridge playing family and has been a member of our club since 2002. One of our highest contributing members, she serves as Convenor (plus chauffeur, caterer, scorer) of our lively Friday bridge group. The highlights of her bridge experiences have been meeting great people, being promoted to silver in 2018, and scoring good boards against good players! A keen gardener, talented cook and avid gym goer, Karen also serves as Club Captain of the local croquet club. She is seen here with an as-yet-unidentified stalker....
Congratulations to Ernie (and his partner from Invercargill) for achieving FIFTH place in the 10A Swiss pairs held last Saturday, Ross and Anne for coming in @ TENTH place, and Linda Baker for earning her first A point!
Do you ever wonder about who the members of the club are, what they do and where they go when they're not playing bridge? Wonder no more as starting today we introduce a member a week! This week it's our new life member WENDY PATTERSON!
A record 84 members showed up to contest the first game of the Skyline series last night - wonderful to see everyone looking tanned and relaxed. Congratulations to pairs who took top honours: N/S Duncan Bradley/Paula Boughey @ 61.09% and E/W Lesley Muir/ Sue Wilson @ 60.87!
Here is the final position for the Silver Championship last year.
